Australia Has a Scent of Its Own

Most fragrance guides are written for the northern hemisphere — roses for spring, pine for winter, pumpkin spice for everything else. None of it quite fits here.

At Lunaire, every scent in our Chapter 1 Collection is Australian-inspired — rooted in this landscape, designed for this light, and intended to make sense in an Australian home at different times of day. Here's the story behind each one.

First Light Fern — Thyme + Olive

This is a morning scent. The kind of fragrance that makes a kitchen feel purposeful — fresh, herbal, alive. Thyme is sharp and grounding without being medicinal. Olive softens it into something warmer and more domestic. Together they conjure the feeling of light coming through a window while the kettle boils.

Best in: kitchens, home offices, any space where you start your day. Mood: energised, clear-headed, present.

Blue Mountains Mist — Eucalyptus + Cedar

This is our most distinctively Australian scent — and our most consistently popular. Eucalyptus is one of the defining smells of the Australian bush: clean, resinous, slightly camphor-bright in cool air. Cedar anchors it with warmth and depth, pulling it away from anything clinical into something genuinely beautiful.

Named for the mist that settles over the Blue Mountains valleys on a cool morning — the same mountains where every Lunaire candle is handpoured in small batches. This one is personal to us.

Best in: living rooms, studies, hallways. Mood: grounded, calm, outdoorsy without being rustic.

Afternoon Bloom — Jasmine + Rose

The warmth of a garden in the late afternoon, when the heat has eased and the jasmine is doing its best work. This is a classic Australian garden fragrance — jasmine climbs fences across the country, and the combination with rose gives it a softness that feels familiar rather than perfumey.

This scent works differently depending on the season. In autumn, in a warm room with low light, it becomes something almost nostalgic — a summer you can smell from the other side of it.

Best in: bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms. Mood: romantic, warm, unhurried.

Moonlight Tea — Vanilla + Bergamot

The evening winding-down scent. Vanilla here isn't sweet or dessert-like — it's warm and skin-close, the kind of vanilla that shows up in luxury perfumery rather than a bakery. Bergamot lifts it with a citrus brightness that stops it from being heavy. The result is cosy without being cloying.

Best in: bedrooms, reading nooks, anywhere you go when you're done for the day. Mood: settled, soft, safe.

After Light — Bergamot + Cedarwood

The most complex scent in the collection. Bergamot opens it with brightness — the same note you know from Earl Grey tea — before cedarwood takes over with a dry, resinous warmth. It's a sophisticated evening fragrance that suits darker spaces and later hours.

This is the one our customers most often describe as 'my signature scent' — the kind of fragrance that becomes associated with your home specifically.

Best in: living rooms, dining rooms, any space with timber or dark furnishings. Mood: confident, warm, distinctly grown-up.
